Three long-shorts (which seem suspiciously like leftovers), involving blind detective Maclain and his dogs as in The Silent Whistle a special dog whistle proves the clue that finally spots a double murderer, as in Melody in Death an old composer suggests a solution in a hidden theme written in an opera, and as finally in The Murderer Who Wanted More Maclain settles an inheritance tangle. Even the fascination of envisioning Maclain and his dogs at work can't keep these from being contrived.
