A persuasive study of the creative enjoyment of music as a vital part of every child's physical, mental and emotional growth. Mrs. Landeck is a music teacher of many years' experience. She is writing here for parents with no special musical background. She deplores the modern excess of readymade entertainment and makes copious suggestions for music in the home (and elsewhere). Creative spontaneity is the keynote of her theory. Rhythmic games, simple songs even for babies, folk songs with their emotional richness, selective choice of records and instruments for children at each age level, the reading of music even for the uninitiated -- all these are treated practically, with enthusiasm, and with careful relation to everyday living. There are sound ideas, too, for a real and natural musical life in school, in the community. After the first few over-enthusiastic, over-selling pages, this book should delight parents---and a goodly number of teachers-- who are eager for happy, productive relations between children and music.
