THE GIANT BOOK

Twenty-two entries--some giant stories, some short recipes on how to handle giants (if they want to shake hands, hold out a hot poker, it's warm and firm as a handshake should be) and some poems. There's Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack the Giant-Killer for old favorites and David and Goliath, which the editor did as a separate on Viking's list last season. The range goes from gentle giants to the ogre-ish variety and they're all well retold. An interesting section called ""Permissions and Confessions"" explains sources and revisions. A story teller's standby--all amusing in every sense of the word.
