Dressing up angels is a lot like dressing up dolls, and kids who love choosing outfits will love this book. Downes's intricate embroidery illustrations revel in the details of what angels look like, the clothes they wear, and the ""jobs"" they do. For example, some angels are shod in delicate slippers with bells on their toes, while others wear boots ""to help little devils mind their own business."" Hairstyles vary from the prim Victorian called ""Roly Poly"" to the spiked 'do named ""Lightning."" Angel occupations include celestial duties like making snowflakes, taking flying lessons, and creating weather, as well as baking and choir-singing. It may sound precious, but Downes's humor, her orderliness and sense of detail will attract readers, who will pore over the gilded stitchery, selecting their favorite angel accessories.
