The building of the Croton Reservoir, the aqueduct and the political chicaneries that went into the realization of the dream of New York's water supply- this is the substance of a story of David Wakeman, idealistic young engineer, who gave completely of himself that the dream be achieved. A story more in the tradition of Idell's Centennial Summer etc. than of Partridge's nostalgic Country Lawyer and its successors. Good regional, period material, but the story is thin spun and the telling somewhat pedestrian.
