The second installment in Ami’s erotic suspense saga, the sequel to The One (2014), continues the steamy story of Adelia Lindstrom, a recently divorced equestrienne and mother of 3-year-old twins who is struggling to move forward in life after picking up the pieces of her ended marriage.
It has been a year since Adelia’s marriage to wealthy entrepreneur Miles Bremen was torn apart by his vicious accusations of her infidelity. Complicating matters is the fact that Adelia—with the help of hunky detective David Weiss—still hasn’t figured out who killed her activist parents nearly five years earlier. But when Miles realizes that his own twin sister, Karolin, is behind the bizarre (and highly illegal) events that led to his divorce, he vows to win back Adelia’s love, although it’s quite obvious that she has begun a relationship with David. Miles’ attempts to reconcile with his ex-wife are hindered by an array of factors: his obsessive and possessive nature, the sadistic way in which he objectified and used his last girlfriend, and most importantly, his emotionally unhinged sister, who has vowed revenge against him. The numerous erotic sequences—particularly the purple passages (“In ecstasy she launched across the sky like a shooting star, her vagina clenching in spasms of delight”)—may be a little much for some readers, but the supercharged emotional undertone coupled with the impressive assortment of bombshell plot twists makes this an undeniable page-turner. Ill-described sex scenes notwithstanding (the term “honey” is used about a dozen times), the only major criticism is in the weak characterization of Adelia, whom—for all of her intelligence, strength and life experience—can sometimes come across as helpless and clueless.
A steamy story powered by generous helpings of naughty sex and knotty suspense.
