Croce's name has been more to the for in the past year than for some time previously, because of the part he is playing in the restoration of Italy. It is therefore of interest outside merely philosophical circles to discover just what is his conception of the role of the State and the Church, just what his judgment of democratic and liberal political concepts. This book will clarify our thinking in regard to his dominant trends. But Crooe's arguments are difficult to follow, one could wish he had translated his concepts into language understandable in terms of current political issues. This is definitely a book for the intellectuals-not the average reader.
