VALERIE AND THE SILVER PEAR

While Valerie helps Grandpa harvest his pears and make them into pies, as Grandma used to, he holds her interest with tales of the silver pear they're sure to find among the others--just as he and Grandma did each year. What they did with them is interesting, too: one was sent to the Queen, one set adrift in a bottle--and one tiny one, which Grandpa produces when this year fails to uncover one, is Oil a charm bracelet that he gives the child. Valerle's not disappointed; the day of sharing work and memories has been a pleasure. A warm, rather long realistic story, affectionately illustrated in watercolor and color pencil; a tasty-sounding recipe for pear pie is included.
