A GOSPEL FOR THE SOCIAL AWAKENING: Selection from the writings of Walter Rauschenbusch

Rauschenbusch is regarded as the chief prophet of the ""social gospel"" and has inspired some of the most forward-looking men the Protestant Church has produced in this last generation. The reissue of selections from his writings is timely, as it is the fashion in some theological circles to dismiss lightly the ""social gospel"" as reflecting a naively idealistic and optimistic belief in human progress. This volume should prove that here was no believer in inevitable human progress. His whole message was rooted in God -- and few men of our time have such a keen sense of the pervasiveness of human sin. There are many in the church who will welcome this book and be strengthened in their commitment to the Kingdom of God.
