WINTER PATRIOT

Why does Seth Kimble Join the patriots? Because a Hessian killed his father. What stands between him and his brother Grant? The accidental death Of a pet dog. Why does Seth run into a burning house? To rescue Grant's new puppy. Seth, a sixteen-year-old patriot at the start of the Revolution, tells his own short, frequently melodramatic history in spare dialect dialogue--the skirmishes with the enemy, reconciliation with his brother, the, sudden emergence and just as sudden capitulation of a personal enemy within the ranks. The daily life of a Revolutionary soldier sans the glory comes across well, but the characterization is too weak and the plot too thin for the intended age group.
