HANDBOOK OF THE HEAVENS

Expansion of the material issued by the Museum of Natural History for the Junior Astronomy Club of New York, and reviewed last March. ""Step by step, through the seasons, the handbook takes one. Each step seems to grow out of its predecessor, and the charts and diagrams and simple text make it seem fascinating and straight sailing. The simpler constellations, the planets, the moon, meteors, double stars, solar observations, nebulae and clusters, amateur photography, variable stars, asteroids, hints on telescopic usage-- these are the main steps"". In comparing it with the book listed below, I felt that this book was a more stimulating and practial introduction for the novice, that it really lead one from one step to another along natural lines. The opening of the new planetarium in New York should give impetus to the sale of astronomy books in the vicinity.
