MECHANICAL MAN

Pub Date: May 22nd, 1959
Publisher: Putnam

A survey of mechanics and man's outstanding mechanical achievements, this book commences with the speculations of da Vinci- his program for swamp control, his studies of light, sound, and distance, and his designs for armaments. It goes through the centuries summarizing mechanical achievements, some immediately familiar, some obscure- but important, and concludes with a discussion of the mechanical problems facing man in the space age. Though brief, the explanations of the various inventions discussed are clear and given in context of the period and the need which led to their evolution. A routine, but informative text of a purely digest nature.
