SUCH AGREEABLE FRIENDS

By

Publisher: Hill & Wang

Currently the Director of the Frankfurt Zoo, Bernard Grzimek has long and intimate experience with animals and has written of them in Serengeti Will Not Die, No Room for Wild Animals, etc. His present book takes up both aspects of living with animals wild and domestic, and determining their capacities. The Grzimek menage has included Ula the chimpanzee (who once received a blood transfusion from a human being), Purzel the coypu (better known as the bearer of nutria), Nixe the dachshund, Jorinde and Joringel the lovebirds, Gengis the wolf, the rhesus family of Romeo, Juliet, and Romulus, etc. Then there was that special dog, Senta. Dr. Grzimek has also tested horses for their sense of direction, nature of differentiating, social order; elephants for their ability to remember and fabled fear of a mouse. His book is a mixture of sentiment and science and possesses a distinct curiosity appeal for the animal lover.
