In a chapter each, the author presents such hard-to-believe-in animals as the platypus, the spiny anteater, and the kangaroo. A generous number of pictures support the text at every point and constitute superb examples of animal illustration. They are detailed and exact. The egg-laying monotremes and the pocketed marsupials are mostly from Down Under. (The possum will be familiar to North American marsupial fanciers.) Also included are such (odd sorts as the wombat, the Tasmanian devil and the cuscus. The habits of life for each animal discussed are thorough, brief and clear. This book is lively non-fiction and one of the P-H Junior Research Series.
