VOYAGE AND RETURN: An Experience With Cancer

This short (fifty pages) last testament was not written for publication and it annotates in intimate, imagistic terms her feelings from the time when she ""read in the laboratory of (her doctor's) eye the sum and measure of mortality."" This was followed by a mastectomy, a course of cobalt treatments, the reprieve-- she always doubted. Miss Kavinoky taught, wrote both novels and poetry, and much of this is written in the language of the lyricist-- ""like a pearl- alien matter- a luminous intrusion- spinning malignancy in a sound shell."" It is of course inescapably affecting but one may well question reader reluctance.
