COME, MY LOVE

A nostalgic childhood recall, as one twin -- the underdog throughout childhood -- looks back to the successive steps by which she managed to grow up and become an individual in her own right. Tiny, as she was called, yearned to be known by her rightful name, Pearl, as her twin was known by her name, Ruby. But to the sprawling membership of a family, knit by blood and common traditions -- torn by inner dissensions -- held together through the dominance of the grandmother, matriarch of the old school -- Tiny was simply Tiny. Ruby had her cake and ate it too. A convincing picture of a passing way of life in the South -- not the opulent glamor of romantic pictures, nor the sordidness of a Tobacco Road -- but the less alluring, unsung middle class, with certain pretentions, false snobbery, etc. Slight plot -- poor boy makes good and comes back.
