His closing advice on learning to ride is just as perfunctory--""The number of riding schools in your area will depend on where you live""--and, when he casually recommends joining a pony club, which entails owning and keeping your own mount (""It's a lot of work,"" but much more fun than ""having to take whatever horse is available at a public stable""), downright callous.
