A very personal angler's story, with tall tales and fishing yarns. The boyhood part is particularly delightful -- days when the spirit of angling took hold of him, when a tamarack pole and dug bait and a willow whistle as lure seemed heaven. Gradually he acquired facility in making flies; gradually he became an expert on rods and reels -- and he shares that knowledge. He fished from his native northern Wisconsin, to the High Sierras and the Pacific Northwest. The magic was there, wherever he went. And he has the faculty for sharing it.
