This is not a biography, but an anthology of Thoreau, with the selections made and classified under special heads such as Birds, Rivers, Growing Things, and so forth. It seems rather arbitrary and the difficulty of avoiding overlapping, with a man who wrote so continually of all facets of the universe around him, is wellnigh insurmountable. One wonders where the advantage lies -- except for those who want to use the book as one would use a book of ""Familiar Quotations."" Limited appeal.
