HUMAN KNOWLEDGE: Its Scope and Limit by Bertrand Russell

HUMAN KNOWLEDGE: Its Scope and Limit

Let me just list the main headings:- The World of Science; Language; Science and Perception; Scientific Concepts; Probability; Postulates of Scientific Inference. It is impossible in a brief report to analyze the main ideas in a book as comprehensive as this purports to be- even if those ideas were, as the author indicates, intended for that larger public (which we doubt. The book demands a background in calculus and logic for any measure of digesting). Perhaps professional philosophers and scientists- some of them- will find the material absorbing. The name of the author and the publishers' well known ability to put over these encyclopedic tabloids of knowledge may push the sales figure beyond the probability of the reading capacity of the public which read Science for the Citizen and Mathematics for the Million. This is infinitely more difficult- and duller.
