RARELY TOLD BIBLE STORIES FOR BIGGER CHILDREN

Companion volume to Bible Stories as Told to Very Little Children -- and not living up to the promise of the title. In the first place, many of the stories are true and tried favorites (Jonah, the Prodigal Son, some of the miracles from the New Testament); in the second place, the manner of telling would be considered ""talking down"" by the older children I know. There are some unfamiliar stories -- that is unfamiliar in such collections -- the story of Belasm (with the only mentioned in passing, by the way), the walls of Jericho, the story of the Bhunamite Woman, the conversion of Saul. Bible sources for the original chapters and verses are given at the end of each story. I sensed that the author is a Christian Scientist -- partly from phraseology, partly from omissions of certain aspects of the stories she told.
