Pilot Bob Reeve typified Alaskan airmen in the '30's, when they were general factotums in a land broken up by mountain ranges and other blocks to easy communications. Coming to Valdez in 1932 Reeve worked as a mechanic, then chartered a plane to haul miners' supplies and shortly earned a reputation for being able to get in and out of the tightest spots. Eventually, he earned enough to buy his own flying equipment and to raise a family. The episodes provide high, realistic adventure in a swift, talky narrative that emphasizes Beth Day's record as juvenile biographer and as the author of The Little Professor of Piney Woods.
