The World of the Grizzlies is the world of the Stantons, Jim and Laurette, who moved to the wilderness of British Columbia in 1919 with a few hundred dollars and an endless supply of determination. Laurette developed ways of preserving foods without loading them with salt and Jim did enough trapping and logging to cover their expenses. Their two initial luxuries: a 3' x 10' landscape window and a piano, although when they built their second log cabin (four rooms) Jim constructed a mammoth fireplace which warmed the entire place. Laurette befriended (but not domesticated) everything from birds to grizzly bears; Jim began to guide hunting parties but remains a staunch conservationist, allowing only old boar grizzlies as targets. Their close to forty years enabled them to observe thousands of animals and those experiences are related with admiration for their ingenuity and including considerable information about their neighbors. Back-to-nature with a bite for would-be woodsmen.
