A MORE PERFECT UNION: The Story of Our Constitution

Pub Date: Aug. 13th, 1987

For the youngest children able to understand the concepts involved, a lavishly illustrated summary of the events surrounding the writing and adoption of the Constitution. Covering more briefly the same ground as Fritz's Shh! We're Writing the Constitution (p. 637, C-97); Maestro mentions the delegates' travel problems and living arrangements as well as the major proposals and compromises concerning the composition of Congress. Appended information includes summaries of the content of the seven Articles and the Bill of Rights, a list of the signers, and a table of dates. As in last year's Story of the Statue of Liberty, colorful panoramic illustrations give a sense of having been there, in spite of the rather clumsy drawing of figures and faces. This should be invaluable as explanation to younger children of the year's bicentennial celebrations of the Constitution.
