With her husband Gil, whose first novel has just been sold to pictures, Poldi takes Hollywood in her stride but is questioned in a suicide of a woman she met on the train west. Poldi fights against a whispering campaign, works out a theory of murder, and her discoveries help a weakling provide the justice needed for a couple steeped in evil. Good slant on the telling, with Hollywood life plausible instead of exaggerated, and with fresh interest in spite of drawbacks.
