Not up to the level of Going on Sixteen but a good story for the 12-and 13-year olds, even so. Sue's summer looks bleak to her when Cape May is scratched off the possibilities, her father is in the hospital, her mother working so hard that Sue comes home to a lonely place in Philadelphia. Then comes the chance to go to a farm for the summer -- a horse farm at that. An ""outsider"" at first, Sue learns to play her part in chores and fun. There's a gymkhana; there's riding- and at long last-the fear of jumping is conquered; Sue learns to take responsibility. And she too makes a contribution, opening new doors through books to her new friends to whom a farm has been all of life. The format is poor -- coarse paper- unprepossessing illustrations.
