KIRKUS REVIEW

Two kids cover up their tracks and hole up in their family's backwoods cabin, The Hideaway, instead of going to overnight camp. Addle, about twelve, and Clay, nine, are long-separated brother and sister, recently reunited. Their on-a-whim summer adventure shapes up into a grand scheme and they manage beautifully--scaring off local raccoon hunters, making chocolate pudding, surviving a storm and a flood. Two orphaned raccoons, welcomed to their cabin, provide an unlabored contrast to the temporarily-parentless children who don't find out until the end that the local storekeeper's been looking out for them all along. Cute.
