Intended not as a competitor- but as a companion to other cookbooks, this still will have to contend with Louise Brunner's Magic With Leftovers (Harper- p. 460) -- which has a little more magic - a little less of everything else. Here there is some general advice on staples, on buying meats, on cooking them for the first time so that they will presumably turn out better the second time. And along with substantial sections on meat, poultry, and fish- there is a great deal more coverage on the use- or rather re-use- of vegetables, potatoes, pasta, bread-than in the Brunner book, as well as a section on ""nothing-in-the-house"" except canned goods, or eggs, or cheese. Versatile.
