COYOTE, COME HOME

The San Simon Valley which separates south Arizona and New Mexico, is a small piece of ""heaven"" to the abundant varieties of wildlife who inhabit it-- coati mundis, ring-tailed cats, peccaries, lobo wolves, and-- coyotes, to name a few. Here, Little Blue, a silver-coated coyote fends for his life when his mother is killed by the vicious wolves. The coyote's inquisitive nose leads him to other animals (whose characteristics and habits are vividly described), until he makes friends with a kind Indian. This chronicle of the friendship which develops is plausible, and although it lies precariously on the fringe of sentimentalism, young nature lovers, especially readers of dog stories, will be fascinated by the valley where the author seems to be inordinately familiar.
