STORYTIME TAIES

A routine collection of old and new with accompanying full-color illustrations by Corinne Malvern. With approximately seventy brief versions of fairy and folk tales, modern stories, poems and seven songs,- gleaned from other S & S Big and Little Golden Books Child Life Jack and Jill and from the works of authors as venerated as Thornton Burgess, Lois Lenski, and Margaret Wise Brown. However, this is not a distinguished collection -- the quick and easy presentation does not improve upon Grimm and Andersen, and when a child is confronted with such a mass of material, he is apt to lose the sense of the unity of the stories, and surfeit himself on a series of mediocre dilutions of good writing.
