I'LL SING YOU THE DEATH OF BILL BROWN

Bill Dexter explores the labyrinthal consequences of extralegal tit-for-tat in a rather dullish, spotty novel which begins as Eddie Hayward visits Bill Brown in a military work camp. Brown seeing his good friend Hayward, runs toward him. The move is misconstrued as an escape attempt by Sergeant Tom Green, who shoots and kills. Then, because he cannot ""stand by while the dead devour the quick"" (it would seem Bill Brown wasn't quick enough). Eddie Hayward finds the Sergeant and shoots him down. Unfortunately, the Sergeant has a ""powe"" millionaire father who takes it upon himself to ""create a situation where (sic) Eddie Hayward could starve to death in Eisenhower prosperity..."" A disenchanted mistress, a fed-up wife, and a celibate male secretary complete the picture... Over-stocked, over-written, and violently sexed, I'll Sing You the Death of Bill Brown turns out to be more threat than promise.
