DONNA O'NEESHUCK WAS CHASED BY SOME COWS

This first book is a ridiculous bit of nonsense framed in neatly scanned verse: poor Donna is chased not only by cows but by a whole slew of other creatures and people, all shown by Truesdell as popeyed and intent on her pursuit. Each time sanctuary is offered, Donna gratefully pats her hoped-for deliverer on the head--and it turns out that that is the source of the mayhem: she gives ""such incredible head pats"" that they are all after more. The gifted Truesdell milks every bit of humor from this bizarre premise--it's silly but disarmingly benign. Sure to evoke giggles--and pats on the head.
