THE TASTE OF PROOF

The subject is scotch and everything about it but when to cork the bottle. Robbery, fraud, murder, and evasion of excise taxes are the crimes here set against the background of a Glasgow scotch distillery. While following dourly sober police detection, the reader ms led through each fumy phase of the distilling process in a search for clues. Old-fashioned crime lab analysis and plain footwork replace sex and heroics. In one scene of unbearable pathos, a cop spills out several hundred gallons of the best, then, walks away drenched and smiling.
