Robert Hartford, terribly British, is hired to find a missing tribal drum in a fictional East African country. The drum is capable of becoming a rallying symbol for the natives who are as restless under independence as they were under colonialism. Intrepid Hartford succeeds. (Boom, boom, I presume?) It remains a detective fantasy about a dumb drum.
