CLOWN: Number 33 in Your Program, Number 1 in Your Heart, Hot Rod Hundley.

While the sub-title will have indicated (only too clearly) how this is written, ""Hot Rod"" Hundley is a likable performer even though most people won't remember him. He was a basketball player who clowned and trick-shot his way up to the Los Angeles Lakers and generally brought the hometown fans to their feet. His off-court life was equally erratic (bars, broads, poolhalls and parties) resulting in many curfew infractions. Hundley still holds the record for the largest fine ever handed out in the NBA--a one thousand dollar penalty for missing a plane. Hundley's philosophy was ""when the spotlight come up, I got to be in it. I'd be lost otherwise."" It's harder to get back in it even via a book--although there's something of Jimmy Piersall's brash grandstanding.
