BETTER SAILING FOR BOYS AND GIRLS

Sailing fundamentals that will be more useful as an adjunct to shipboard lessons than as a self-contained self-starter. One significant omission is a swimming requirement; otherwise, the advice for reaching, running and beating is sound and orderly, and tips on techniques are casually included with theoretical principles about wind and water (no suggestion to drop the sails of a righted boat, however). The closing sections on racing are sketchy even for beginners. Its limitations as a one-sitting offering are displaced by its value as a repeated source of reference say, through the summer. A practical sequel to Weiss' theoretical Sailing Small Boats.
