IF THE SHOE FITS

This is no footling effort. Mr. Severn, whose last book was 1963's Here's ur Hat (p. 725, J-249) uses the same approach at the pedal extremity. He tells of noes through the ages, from sandals to safety shoes. Just as in the hat book, Mr.Severn offers good fun along with solidly grounded information -- his discussion of tyle factors, particularly for women's shoes, is as amusing as it is sound. History and legend are the source of the odd facts; function and fashion have influenced the esigns in every age which have, in turn, been modified by industrial/technical ivances.
