THE PRIEST IS NOT HIS OWN

Not only the newly ordained and the seminarians, but also the priest of many years standing should find Bishop Sheen's commentaries on what a priest is to be immensely profitable. Interlacing his observations with numerous Biblical quotations, Bishop Sheen offers his fellow priests a book of solid meditations on the Scriptures in relationship to their peculiar role in life in the world. For all who choose to think of it that way it can well be a type of examination of conscience. The ministry of the priest, his understanding of the idea of the priestly vocation, his renewal of dedication and source of revivification, his duties and responsibilities are all reviewed in the style of the famed Bishop-orator. This alone could be a happy relief from the ponderous style of most books of this kind. One can imagine the Bishop illustrating his points on a black board. But even the sophisticated among the modern priests will find food for thought from the Bishop's reflections. Laymen, too, would gain a new appreciation of the priesthood from its reading.
