Even more CompLete than Whitney's (still in print) 1953 Book of Dog Care, this runs to about double the size, is illustrated with photographs, and has been authored by the staff clinician of the A.S.P.C.A. It's doggedly exhaustive and gives thorough, firm advice on choosing a dog, what to look for, a species by species listing, on to the care of the puppy you have chosen which is almost like reading Gesell. Dr. Johnson then includes all common ailments as well as the care. Complete glossary, appendix of services, etc. This should be the Dr. Spock of dogdom for a good many years to come.
