KIRKUS REVIEW

An original set-up and frame for a succession of deaths, most of which might have passed as natural or accidental but all of which hinged on a succession of revelations intimately linked with the contest of two women for the musical leadership of a somewhat reluctantly-musical mid-western town. The identity of the murderer somehow breaks through, but one is kept diverted from the main channel by a succession of false clues, skeletons in family cupboards, et al. The stage is set for a try out and the murderer reveals himself in time to save wholesale slaughter.
