ALL THE SILVER PENNIES

Silver Pennies (1925), Miss Thompson mentions in her introduction, was ""the first children' anthology to use exclusively contemporary poems;"" with More... (1938), it has been a resource that has become a reflex in children's rooms. No longer contemporary in fact or in character, the collections here combined continue to appeal--the occasionally fey is balanced by the impeccably radiant. As ""decorated"" (an apt description) by Ursula Arndt, who Charmed with her lambent sketches in Elizabeth Coatsworth's Troll Weather, the volume has a fresh grace.
