A cooky, breezy autobiography replete with baseball lingo, attitudes and personality. Primarily a personal record; secondarily the inside story of the building of the game to its place as America's No. One sport. Babe recalls his career from early discovery in the sand lots of an Xavierian school in Baltimore, to his first seasons as a pro,- the Baltimore Oricles-then on to the Red Sox, and the fabulous era with the Yankees where he broke batting averages, home-run records, and so on. There are his-battles with commissioners, umpires, owners, fans; the slow maturity which made him as idel of schoolboys; his tour of Japan; his gradual decline. A modern Heratic Alger story- complete to comeback at the end.
