THEY ROSE ABOVE IT by Bob Considine

THEY ROSE ABOVE IT

By

Pub Date: Jan. 28th, 1976
Publisher: Doubleday

In these banal portraits of his personal heroes, Considine drones on about remarkable human efforts. Those featured include well-known names like FDR, Jimmy Doolittle, and Babe Didrikson; less familiar ones like Rosemary Taylor who organized Vietnam orphanages and directed Operation Baby Lift; and a few whose names remain unkown, such as a hospital nurse who comforted a wounded patient with particular care. Most of the entries are vaguely inspirational but the treatment is superficial and a few minor facts are wrong. Considine's admiration is clear although at times his prose is unintelligible: ""a footnote to man's will to live and overcome against the beady state of appalling odds."" You can rise above it too--thoroughly expendable.
