MR. WHITE, THE RED BARN, HELL and BRIDEWATER

Collection of short stories -- but the Tarkington name means sales. Not, however, in the usual semi-humorous, semi-satiric Tarkington vein, nor yet in his romantic vein. Mr. White:- the dead returns to warn the living of a life not gauged by the senses; Red Barn:- a man attempts to paint his life away in a conception of an embittered universe; Hell:- a man refuses to influence his daughter toward baptising her child, and dies, to struggle toward identification of the here and the hereafter in hell; Bridewater:- how the ""other half"" interprets the relief plans.
