THE CLOUD SHOES

How King Brynne of Norway learned to ski in order to save his people from starvation is a satisfying story with good illustrations. Why the publisher chose to set a pleasant fairy tale in such small type is hard to say. But certainly the story has sufficient appeal and the pictures are strong enough to counteract this weakness. King Brynne was introduced to skis by the dwarf of Trond Mountain, who demanded Prince Melchoir, in exchange for a means to save the starving people. With the wonderful skis he saved his kingdom, and Melchior was returned to him for a happy ending.
