A genial story teller's bag of legends and yarns, spun around a grain of fact about the Old West. Many concern the antics of entertaining personalities -- ""Ferris the Bold"" whose vigorous and shame-less efforts on behalf of the Panama-California Exposition threw a Mexican revolution out of gear; Commodore Jones who captured the state capital of a friendly nation at one point and then sailed ahead of instructions to surrender his command for three years; salty-tongued Pearl Hart, who along with her ""Clyde,"" John Boot, was imprisoned and became pregnant by either her Clergyman or the Governor; Charles M. Hatfield, the rainmaker who gave his clients too much of the real McCoy. And there are sighted but vanished monsters, lost treasure and a passel of mysteries. Idling campfire fare.
