KIRKUS REVIEW

1945 saw the end of the war in Italy, Germany and Japan as well as the deaths of Hitler and FDR and the defeat of Churchill at the polls. The world woke up to the fact that permanent peace was not to be the result of the war as the Cold War set in. The author has managed to encompass many of the minor as well as the major events of the year, ranging from Yalta to Iwo Jima and from Berlin to Hiroshima. He has a clear eye for the decisive moment and the memorable detail. Substantial history with a popular touch.
