HOPSCOTCH

Gambler-gamesman Miles Kendig, ex-CIA and retired to ineffable boredom, decides to offer himself as the moving target for the FBI after threatening to publish a shameful political expose -- with documents. Always on the move, stopping just long enough to write the book in an unidentified motel, Kendig out-thinks and out-runs his pursuers, leading them by the nose and tweaking it at the same time. Garfield's paper chase is, as everyone knows by now, facile and fluent and just one step ahead of the next book.
