A long book, but absorbing in the reading. Should appeal to men, particularly, with its vital picture of the carving out of a new country. Audience somewhat that of Pageant. The story of the transformation of soft-living Cabell into a prosperous hated Australian colonial, against the days of the settling of the country. The brutal treatment of convict labor, the weakening or hardening of the ruling classes, when faced with the challenge of danger from natives, scant living, the monotony of homesteading, the treachery involved in winning to the top. All recounted in unembellished fashion with something of crude and brutal humor.
