In this telling of his own story General ""Billy"" Mitchell recounts those episodes in which he was involved during World War I. The first U.S. Officer to serve on the front, he kept a meticulous journal which he expanded during his court martial into a larger work, never published in book form. Filled with details on trench warfare, technical observations, descriptions of America's ""hat-in-the-ring"" fighter squadron, this somewhat subjective narrative does much to shed light on the personalities and events which shaped the first of the great global conflicts.
